Early Spring Fun-Filled Events For The Entire Family
- February 07, 2024
Welcome to the Days Inn Red Deer hotel blog for a few ideas to do in your spare time whilst you and your family are in Red Deer. After a few months of colder temperatures we are all a bit antsy to get outside and do some fun things. All the activities listed below are appropriate and appealing for all ages, so put on your jacket and enjoy what Red Deer has to offer!
HERITAGE RANCH CHILLI AND HORSE-DRIVEN SLEIGH RIDE
Indulge in the world's best Canadian chili, served on locally made buns and topped with Sylvan Star Cheese! Absolutely delicious. Once all bellies are filled, embark on a delightful public Belgian horse-drawn sleigh or wagon ride. Cost is $29 per person or $99 for a family of four. The sleigh ride happens on Saturday, March 2nd. Dress warmly and have fun. After your outdoors adventure, if everyone is hungry again, drop by the ranch's WESTLAKE GRILL which is known for the quality of food. For further information, visit info@heritageranch.ca
RED DEER WINTER CARNIVAL
Another event to check out on Saturday, March 2nd is the Winter Carnival which is held at La Prairie School at 4810 34th Street between the hours of 10am - 5 pm. This event celebrates the French Canadian tradition. The first event that will be held is at 10 am which is the raising of the flag. After that, until closing, there will be a wide range of activities, games, entertainment, maple toffee making and lots of sampling. Between the hours of 2pm to 4 pm, kids and maybe parents, can enjoy getting their face painted! From 3 to 4 pm, live music will be happening with Jake Mathews, Red Deerians and Calgarians proving the entertainment.
MAKE BIRD-WATCHING A FAMILY FUN ACTIVITY
Just as the weather is starting to warm up, why not take the family outdoors for some bird watching to see how many different species are in the area. What a great way to build memories together as a family: being outdoors, trying to identify species, observing the similarities and differences between the birds. Check out the Kerry Wood Nature Centre, Slack Slough, Heritage Ranch and the Waskasoo Park trails. The swampy areas on the outskirts of the city host flocks of migrating swans, shorebirds and warblers.
