3 Affordable Art Events at the Red Deer Museum this May

  • May 02, 2017

There are lots of great art events in Red Deer all year round, and next month is no exception! With the weather warming up and plants and flowers abloom, there are beautiful local sites from which to draw inspiration. This May, check out these three events at the beautiful Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery to unleash your creativity and get your artistic eye warmed up after a long, cold winter:

MAGnificent Saturdays Foot Painting | May 20th

Bear with us! This class won’t have you painting feet, but painting with your feet. If you enjoyed finger painting as a kid, you’ll love this slippery, messy, satisfying new technique. Try your hand (or foot) at holding a paintbrush between your toes, or simply wrap your foot in a plastic bag and dip it in some paint! You’ll let go of perfectionism or ideas of what it means to make art by trying this unconventional method — and there’s no better way to get out of a creative rut than breaking routine! The event is from 1 pm to 3 pm and kids are more than welcome. Participation is $5 per person or $10 for a family with two kids under 18.

From Red Deer with Love | May 26th

This event marks the official launch of renowned photographer Tim Van Horn’s cross country To Canada With Love tour. Tim is crossing Canada while taking photos to celebrate our nation’s 150th birthday. He already has a massive 54,000 image collection exploring Canada’s culture and diversity, aptly named Canadian Mosaic, which will be displayed this spring. The event takes place from 4 pm to 8 pm, with lots of snacks, refreshments, and live local entertainment.

MAGnificent Saturdays Modigliani Portraits | May 27th

Follow in the footsteps of famous Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani with this unconventional portrait class. Drawing inspiration from Modigliani’s famous elongated portraits, you’ll get a chance to paint yourself a little differently than what you see in the mirror day to day. No hyperrealism (or advanced art skills) required here! Class runs 1 pm to 4 pm and costs $5 per person.

Join us this May for these exciting arts events that celebrate the creativity of Red Deer, Alberta! The wonderful Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery is less than a 10 minute drive away from us and always has tons of amazing events. With free parking always offered at our hotel, you can attend as many events as possible and be able to take your creations home with you — in any weather!
